In Memoriam ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
“They’re going to the harbour beyond the White Towers. To the Grey Havens.
They’re leaving Middle-earth. Never to return.”
J.R.R. Tolkien
On September 2. 1973 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien set sail from the Grey Havens and passed into the West, joining his wife Edith, who waited for him after passing herself 21 months earlier on November 29th, 1971. Each year we honor his passing here in Mordor with this tribute video ‘In Memoriam’
“And the ship went out into the High Sea and passed into the West,
until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water.
And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass
and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.”
J.R.R. Tolkien ~ The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
