Maps hand-drawn in the Lake District, England

Illustrative map maker Dan Bell of North West England has created Tolkien-style maps of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

An ordinary guy from the Lake District began drawing maps last fall!

Dan Bell lives in the Lake District, also known as the Lakes or Lakeland, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells).

BBC News posted this report about a man in England who began making Middle-earth styled maps of the regional parks in Lakeland near his home. We did a little more research and found his website middleearthsmaps.com to see what other things he is working on.

My name’s Dan, an ordinary guy from the Lake District. Last October I began drawing maps. Maps that resemble the iconic style of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of the much loved Lord of The Rings series, and The Hobbit. My aim is to convert all 15 of the UK’s national parks into Tolkienised landscapes. I also do the odd city, province, and international national park.”

You can follow his  journey on Twitter @DanBellFacebook @MiddleEarthsMaps, or Instagram @MiddleEarthsMaps.”
