Black Rabbit of Inle'... a Debate!

TheLandofShadow.com ~Ring Lord~

On proving that the Black Rabbit of Inle comes for Hazel at the conclusion of Watership Down...

First, the Black Rabbit of Inle' and
El-ahrairah are not one in the same. Chapter thirty-one, "The Story of El-ahrairah and the Black Rabbit of Inle," leaves no doubt that both individuals are not one in the same but separate figures. Dandelion, in chapter six, The Story of the Blessing of El-ahrairah, provides information on the origins of El-ahrairah. He states,"'Long ago, Frith made the world. . . . Frith made all the animals and birds . . . Now, El-ahrairah was among the animals in those days and he had many wives'" It must be made clear that in no place within Watership Down is El-ahrairah ever considered a deity possessing supernatural power.

Sauron's Eye... In Outer Space...
TheLandofShadow.com ~Ring Lord~

Next time you look up at the night sky you may find Sauron looking back at you!

A new study of a large number of planetary nebulae has revealed that rings, such as those seen here around the Cat's Eye Nebula, are much more common that thought so far and have been found in at least one third of all planetary nebulae. Although the rings may be the key to explaining the final agonized 'gasp' of the dying central star, the mystery behind the Cat's Eye nebula's nested Russian doll structure remains largely unsolved.

In this detailed view from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, the so-called Cat's Eye Nebula looks like the penetrating eye of the disembodied sorcerer Sauron from the film adaptation of "Lord of the Rings."

More Mist Webisodes and Interviews...
TheLandofShadow.com ~Ring Lord~

Stephen Kings short story The Mist finally comes to the big screen. This looks to be a great production. The folks at Ain't It Cool.com have some new on-set interviews.

The next shot was one of my favorites of the day.  It’s a very EVIL DEAD type shot. It starts off real low, looking at the landcruiser head on. The camera is scrapping the ground, running up to the front of the car, then lifting up over the grill and stopping on the hood. The camera is close on its heels at it hauls ass for its meal, running along the ground and then crawling up the grill and onto the hood.
They then got a shot from the backseat of the car, over the shoulders of David and Amanda, looking out through the windshield at where the spider will be. There’s going to be a face-off as the spider looks through the glass and they look back. It charges, hits the window, pauses, then crawls up and over the roof, going for something else.

Dark Domain Update... Cirith Ungol!
TheLandofShadow.com ~Ring Lord~

Here is our latest update to our Dark Domain section of The Land of Shadow.com... Cirith Ungol... The High Pass and Watch Tower in the Western Mountains of Shadow.

In that dreadful light Sam stood aghast, for now, looking to his left, he could see the tower of Cirith Ungol in all its strength. The horn that he had seen from the other side was only the topmost turret. Its eastern face stood up in three great tiers from a shelf in the mountain-wall far below; its back was to a great cliff behind, from which it jutted out in pointed bastions, one above the other, diminishing as they rose, with sheer sides of cunning masonry that looked north-east and south-east.

Coming next... an update to the mysterious Durthang!

OUT & ABOUT IN MIDDLE-EARTH...
Or Any Excuse is a Good Excuse!

This year is homeboy year - I'm writing this because I know my agent, bless her, reads my newsletters just in case there are signs of undue dilettantism and unreasonable sloth - as I have a good deal of work to be done over a long period and must get cracking on it.

However, sallying forth from hearth and home is possible occasionally, but I must have a good excuse. Grocery shopping is valid, but not very satisfying culturally or particularly exotic; exhibitions are better.

The next one will be in France, near Lyon, at the mediatheque of Bourgoin-Jallieu.All the dates are on the lovely brochure they have done for the show.

Be Afraid... Be Very Afraid... the Mist is Coming!
TheLandofShadow.com ~Ring Lord~

Stephen Kings short story The Mist finally comes to the big screen. This looks to be a great production. The folks at Ain't It Cool.com have some excellent on-set interviews and the first in a series of "Webisodes"

The good folks putting together THE MIST have another treat for you. They're about to kick off a series of "webisodes," their own production diaries. I'm not sure how regular the webisodes will be, but we know there's definitely one and you can view it below!

On set reports ~HERE~

The first webisode takes place during the earthquake scene I talked about in my set reports.
You'll also get a cameo appearance by a talented comic book artist and writer and glimpses of some of the characters. I've also just locked down a return visit for next week, so keep an eye out for further reports... I won't show you my cards yet, but I will say I'm lookin' at seeing a great creature scene. Can't wait! In the meantime, here's Frank Darabont welcoming you to the set!

Pathfinder, Legend of the Ghost Warriors
TheLandofShadow.com ~Ring Lord~

Interesting new film based on a Graphic Novel about the Vikings decent on the new World...

In an untamed, primordial America, 500 years before Columbus will reach its shores, unfolds an epic battle between love and hate that will change one man’s destiny and the future of a nation: PATHFINDER. This action-adventure saga recreates one of the most riveting, yet never-before-seen, eras in human history – when Viking “dragon” ships from the mysterious Norse lands arrived out of nowhere to invade a pristine North America. Inspired by historical findings, yet forged with the magic and style of a modern graphic novel, PATHFINDER comes to life in a cinematic experience filled with intense and primal action.
