| The
Orcs of the White Hand under the sway of Saruman,
who wished desperately to posses the One Ring
and so rival the Power in Mordor. In secret he gathered Goblins and Orcs from
the Misty Mountains and they began the work of transforming Isengard into a fortress
for the coming War. | | A
new Race of Orcs bred in secret behind the walls of Orthanc
by Saruman as he fell under the sway of the Ring and fancied himself a great Power
to rival the vast Fortress of Barad-dur.
This foul craft of breeding orcs was mastered by Sauron
years before, but perfected by Saruman and his fighting Uruk-hai. Perhaps he bred
the races of wicked men and Orcs... it is not known for sure, but this new race
of Orcs the Fighting Uruk-hai of the White Hand were large and stood more erect
then their brethren in Mordor... and most important they could stand the light
of day, though they hated it as do all the Dark Servants of Middle Earth. |
| Suddenly
the clouds were seared with a blinding flash. For
a staring moment the watchers on the wall saw all the space between them and the
Dike lit with a white light: it was boiling and crawling with black shapes, some
squat and broad, some tall and grim, with high helms and sable shields. Hundreds
and hundreds more were pouring over the dike. The dark tide flowed from cliff
to cliff... Brazen trumpets
sounded... The enemy surged
forward...

| ...hundreds of hideous orc-faces
grinned at him out of the shadows, hundreds of hideous arms grasped as him from
every side. ...all about them
stood a great company of Orcs... We
are the fighting Uruk-hai! We slew the great warrior. We took the prisoners. We
are the servants of Saruman the Wise, the White Hand: the Hand that gives us man's
flesh to eat. We came out of Isengard, and led you here, and we shall lead you
back the way we choose. I am Ugluk. I have spoken!
