The Tolkien Toast ~ It's time for the 2012 Toast to The Professor!

Here is our annual Animated Birthday Toast to The Professor!

Raise a Glass and Give a Toast to Tolkien!

On the 3rd January 1892 JRR Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. To celebrate this event, on this day each year Tolkien fans around the world were invited to raise a glass and toast the birthday of this much loved author 21:00 (9 pm) your local time.
The toast is "The Professor".

For those unfamiliar with British toast-drinking ceremonies:

To make the Birthday Toast, you stand, raise a glass of your choice of drink (not necessarily alcoholic), and say the words 'The Professor' before taking a sip (or swig, if that's more appropriate for your drink). Sit and enjoy the rest of your drink.

Here is our animated Tolkien Toast we share each year... gather around friends or just raise a glass yourself... let the flash animation below play and make your toast to The Professor! Enjoy everyone!

On This Day In Mordor ~ The year 3019 ~ The Day January 3

News of the One Ring has come to the Dark Tower.

Beyond doubt, the Ring has left Rivendell and is moving south along the line of the Misty Mountains. Sauron feels sure that no one has yet declared himself Master of the Ring... there is still a time of doubt and fear among his enemies. However, it is only a matter of time before one comes forth and sets himself against the Power of Mordor. The mind of Sauron is bent upon the finding of the Ring... but he knows that now he must be wary... there may still be a chance to snatch the Ring before anyone of them gains control over all the others and brings them under his sway.

Spies from Mordor move Northward across the plain of the Dagorlad to Mirkwood and the Misty Mountains. Saruman has been ordered to guard the Gap or Rohan. Soon, Sauron will know exactly were the Ring is... and then it will be taken and returned to it true Master.

Within the borders of Mordor, upon the Plain of Gorgoroth, the Mouth of Sauron stands upon the Iron Bridge before the Gate of Barad-dûr. A great host of Men from Khand have entered the Plain beneath the Shadow of Orodruin and now have made encampment before the Dark Tower. The Lords of Kand pay tribute to Sauron the Great with men of arms, gold and slaves!

The Nazgûl even now are circling above the Darkness of Gorgoroth and the peak of Mount Doom, their piercing cries subduing the willful Men of Khand. Like all others, they are soon humbled before the power and might of Mordor!

Not Gollums Cave!

I am pretty sure that this, our first look at the One Ring is not shot from within Gollum's cave, deep within the Misty Mountains.

At first glance I thought that this clip might be from the iconic moment when Bilbo first finds the Ring, however at closer examination, it's obvious this could not be the Goblin Tunnels deep under the Misty Mountains.  For one, the Ring appears to be sitting on a forest floor... sitting on leaves and bracken.

Secondly, in the background Bilbo seems yp be surrounded by trees covered in cobwebs. I think this is the moment in The Hobbit, when Bilbo discovers the Dwarves captured by the Spiders in Mirkwood. Why the Ring in on the ground so far from Bilbo is a mystery... it does not play in directly to the scene from the books.

Perhaps Peter Jackson is taking the opportunity in this scene to give us and Bilbo more insight into the One Ring of power. I suppose we will just have to see!

Here, I included a clip of Gollum's and Blbo's first encounter by the small pool deep in the misty Mountains... this looks very different form the shot above and confirms my thinking. What do you think?

Dark Screen caps from the new Hobbit Teaser Trailer!

I pulled screen caps of some of the darker more interesting images form the new Hobbit Trailer...

I wanted to get a closer look at some of the places we see in this introductory trailer. It leaves us with many questions!

First I wanted to see upload a series of clips of Gandalf... where is this place? Is it the lair of the Necromancer in Mirkwood? That is my guess... I think all of the clips come from the same set of scenes.. what do you guys think?

Here we see gandalf fighting one of the Servants of Shadow... but who? An Orc, a Goblin or some other Dark Creature??  I don't believe this is a glimpse of the Goblin Tunnels in the Misty mountains... It seem to be some other Dark Place.

Finally we see Gandalf descending in a deep cavern or tower... this might possibly be a shot of the Goblin Tunnels, however I don't think so... I think this is one of our first looks at Dol Guldur... Sauron's abode in Mirkwood.

I plan to have a few more screen caps in coming posts!

'Hobbit' Trailer: What We Want To See!

MTV Online echos a lot of our own feelings about what we want to see in the new Hobbit teaser trailer!

Remember everyone... The Hobbit Teaser Trailer premieres online today at 7 p.m. PST.

This is a great article that covers a lot of rumor and discussion about the upcoming any highly anticipated trailer!

'Hobbit' Trailer: What We Want To See!

This is a new hi-res photo just released today for viewing... click on the image to see it in all it hi-res glory!

If you're a "Lord of the Rings" fan, today and tomorrow are two big days for the film franchise's legacy. First up, today marks the 10-year anniversary of "The Fellowship of the Ring's" big debut on the big screen (you're welcome for making us all feel incredibly old). Fittingly, Warner Bros has decided to release the first trailer for "The Hobbit," the prequel movie follow-up to "The Lord of the Rings," online tomorrow at 7 p.m. PST.

It's been confirmed that the trailer will debut before screenings of "The Adventures of Tintin" on Wednesday, so if you want to see Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey towering over you -- potentially even in 3D?! -- then that's the place to do it. But if you, like us, have been waiting for this movie to come out since 10 years ago today, then you'll probably be refreshing your browser repeatedly to see the trailer as soon as you can. Here are five things we're hoping to see in the trailer.

The One Ring
There's one ring to rule them all, and Bilbo is the man to find it in "The Hobbit." We've already seen the scene where Bilbo finds the Ring in "The Fellowship of the Ring" acted out by Ian Holm, but that just makes us all the more desperate to see Martin Freeman recreate it. How did director Peter Jackson go about shooting the scene? Will it be the same as it appeared in "Fellowship," or has it been shot in a new, unique way? Also, if these scenes make it into the trailer, then we'll get to see Andy Serkis reprise his role as Gollum, which we've been desperate for ever since his death in "Return of the King."

The Dwarves In Song
Okay, this one we already know is going to be in the trailer because it was spoiled for us by people who sat through this year's Butt-Numb-A-Thon. Apparently the dwarves all make an appearance (as we expected based on their pivotal role in this story) and join together in song at one point. As author J.R.R. Tolkien had a wonderful tendency to include songs and music in his novels, this should come as no surprise to his fans, but this is the scene to look out for from what we hear. Well, fingers crossed.

Frodo, Legolas, Elrond and Galadriel
"The Hobbit" might be jumpstarting a brand new -- albeit short -- film series for the "Lord of the Rings" franchise, but we can't help but be excited to see some familiar faces in the movies. Gandalf and Gollum are givens because they're major characters in the story, but we also know that Frodo, Legolas, Elrond and Galadrial will be making appearances as well. Hopefully Warner Bros knows its audience well enough to offer us a tease of some of those characters as well as showing us the new ones.

Mirkwood Forest
We still don't know where exactly Jackson split the two "Hobbit" films, but we're guessing that "An Unexpected Journey" will end after Bilbo and the dwarves enter Mirkwood Forest. It's one of the most iconic parts of the story, and features one of its few action sequences. Bilbo facing off against spiders and Wood-elves? Don't mind if we do.

Smaug
Tomorrow's trailer is meant to promote the first of the two "Hobbit" films, "An Unexpected Journey," but our hope is that it also includes footage of "There And Back Again." If it's going to follow in the footsteps of the original "Lord of the Rings" trailer and last year's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" teaser, then it will include footage from both of its parts instead of just one. That's kind of what we're placing our bets on, because there is nothing we would love more than to see what wonderful CGI Jackson has dreamed up for Smaug the dragon.
