The Great Eye

Watch this Artist as she creates the Flaming Lidless Eye of Sauron, the Dark Lord of Mordor.

“Concealed within his fortress, the lord of Mordor sees all. His gaze pierces cloud, shadow, earth, and flesh. You know of what I speak, Gandalf: a great Eye, lidless, wreathed in flame.” ~ Saruman Lay your staff here for more »

This is no Cat’s Eye Nebula!

You may have thought you read about this several years ago… but this is the REAL EYE of Sauron in the sky!

In 2008 a news story circulated the web after a photo taken by NASAs Hubble Telescope captured the imagination of viewers. The so-called Cat’s Eye Nebula (seen in the Read More section below), looks like the penetrating eye of the disembodied sorcerer Sauron from the film adaptation of “The Lord of the Rings.” However in my view it is the Helix Nebula (the image to the left) that really embodies the Eye of Sauron!

Just how much Dark Power would it take?

The folks at LP Lord of the Ring Project not only ask this question… but they analyze and mathematically serve up the answer!

Not all people ask themselves this question, I know. Personally I have been thinking about this for about two months now and I have now finally found the time to do some calculations. The question is how powerful a light bulb would have to be to give the same light Sauron’s Eye does. Not life changing research but very intriguing nonetheless. In order to calculate this I have used a scene from the Return of the King. This means that everything is based on data from the movies and not the books.
