One Ring to Rule Them All!
The Inscription upon the One Ring of Power
Forged in the fires of Mount Doom, Sauron made the Great Ring of Power to be a ruling ring that would hold all the others under its sway, bound to it and to last only so long as it lasted. In the Ring Verse it is referred to as Ash Nazg in Black Speech. The script upon the One Ring was written in Tengwar and symbolizing its ability to rule the other Rings of Power, and perhaps being an actual part of its power. The verse was etched upon the inside and the outside of the simple golden band. When the Ring was cut from Sauron’s hand the letters faded and it appeared perfectly plain and featureless, but when placed in fire, the inscription appeared as fiery letters upon the One Ring.
“Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul,
ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul”
“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne in the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, in the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”
